Marie Kondo's 9 tips to declutter your life

The Japanese author Marie Kondo’s method of organisation is inspiring the world and we have to thank her new show “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo” for this. The advice from the organizing queen to declutter your stuff, which she calls as KonMari method makes it easy for you to decide what to keep and what to get rid of.

Her best-selling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” is full of tips to turn your messy home into a neat one.

If you want to get rid of your cluttered almirah or the pile of books lying all over the place in your house, then try these Marie Kondo’s KonMari methods:

2/10

Keep those things that makes you smile

Put your hand on everything you have and ask yourself, does it bring joy to you? If not, detach yourself from these things. There is no point keeping things that you are not going to use in future. They are just occupying the space.

3/10

Remove those papers

Get rid of those phone bill and credit bill, which have been lying in your cupboard from ages. We are living in a digital era and can find everything online, so there is no need to put all those papers at your place. This will make a lot of space to keep other stuff.

4/10

Store everything standing upright

Kondo advises not to pile your stuff one above the other. She recommends you to store items side by side so that it is easy for you to find them, without cluttering anything.

5/10

Value your things

Is your cupboard overflowing with clothes? Your shoes are lying on the floor? If yes, then you should do something about it right away. Marie Kondo says that it is important to respect your clothes. No matter how cheap or expensive your belongings are, do not throw them just about anywhere. Keep it in their respective places properly.

6/10

Fold your things properly

Learn the art of folding clothes. The first step to declutter your cupboard is to fold your clothes in a proper way. Kondo recommends you to buy a dresser if you do not have one, this will keep your clothes happier.

7/10

Get rid of complex storage systems

Kondo recommends to detox your home, before buying any storage items. People spend money on fancy storage items because they think that they have a lot of things and no space to keep them. Get rid of things that you do not need, you will get enough space to keep your stuff.

8/10

Arrange things as per categories

Kondo stresses on the need to focus on the category while arranging your stuff, not on the rooms. Make sure that everything has a designated space. Like keep all your bags at the same place, this will make your work much easier.

9/10

Stay calm

Giving up your stuff is never easy. Kondo urges you to ask yourself the reason why you are doing it. If you will be clear about the reason, then your task will become much easy

10/10

Keep small change in your wallet

Kondo says that she does not understand why people keep change in piggy banks. Instead keep it in the side pocket of your bag, so that you can spend it.
