Loss of appetite is a common problem!

Loss of appetite is a common problem among people of various age groups. Most of the time it is reversible and is often temporary. Poor appetite can be caused due to several reasons like anxiety, stress, and depression. Sometimes it can be due to serious diseases like dementia, kidney problem, bacterial infection, and others. In any case, loss of appetite leads to unwanted weight loss, which is a matter of concern. There are certainly a number of medicines available to treat this condition, but it is always good to first try some natural remedies as they are easy and free from side effects. Here are some natural ways, following which, you can improve your appetite.

Black pepper

Black pepper has been in use for a very long time. It is often used to improve digestion and to increase appetite. It is also an excellent spice to relieve stomach and intestinal gas problems. Black pepper stimulates the taste buds, which in turn increases the secretion of acid in the stomach that improves digestion.

How to have it: Mix a teaspoon of jaggery powder and half a teaspoon of ground black pepper together. Consume this mixture on a regular basis for a few days.

Ginger

Ginger is a quintessential spice that is used in numerous food preparations and also for medicinal purposes. It is excellent for relieving indigestion and stimulating appetite. It also helps in alleviating stomach aches.

How to have it: Take half a teaspoon of ginger juice and add a pinch of rock salt in it. Consume this mixture an hour prior to meals regularly for 10 days. You can also have ginger tea.

Indian Gooseberry

Indian Gooseberry, also known as Amla helps in poor appetite caused by gastrointestinal issues. It improves the function of the digestive tract and detoxifies the liver. Indian Gooseberry is rich in vitamin C and helps to boost the immune system.

How to have it: Mix two teaspoons each of Indian gooseberry juice, lemon juice and honey in a cup of water. Drink this concoction daily in the morning on an empty stomach.

Cardamom

Cardamom helps in promoting the secretion of digestive juices, which in turns improves the appetite.

How to have it: You can simply chew two-three cardamons before the meal. You can also add cardamom powder to your regular tea.

Carom seeds

Carom seeds, also known as ajwain, can cure all types of stomach related problems. The seeds help in the secretion of enzymes and other acids required for the digestion of food.

How to have it: Add two-three teaspoons of carom seeds in some lemon juice. Keep the mixture in a dry place until it dries completely. Mix black salt to it. Have it every day along with warm water. You can also simply chew half a teaspoon of carom seeds before meals.
