To threesome, is a personal choice

Many consider it as a non-traditional form of sex which is why it is not acceptable openly.

But, for many, a threesome is exciting (even more than when two people have intercourse).

While threesome sex is definitely a new and exciting experience, it can go wrong at several levels if there is lack of communication and trust between the three people.

The French name for threesome is trio or ménage à trois.

Threesome and STIs

The risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) increases as one engages with multiple partners.

If one of you gets the STI it is likely that the rest two of you will get it; and if any of you have multiple partners the chain of transmission will keep on growing.

It is important to have racy experience during threesome and at the same time one should not forget the basic sexual hygiene practices like wearing condoms while doing it.

HIV transmission

"Currently, no data indicate that sexually transmitted diseases occur at a higher rate in people who engage in mixed-gender threesomes than in those who don’t. However, the risk of HIV transmission during same-sex threesomes involving men has increased considerably," a WebMD report says.

Threesome or not, you need to know the rules of safe sex and make sure your partners know them too before you engage in a sexual activity.

Several things can go wrong

What if the condom breaks? And that too without anyone's knowledge!

Things can go terribly wrong during an intense threesome and in the process the equation between the three partners gets disturbed.

So, while precaution is necessary it is important to make the communication clear with your partners.

So, what should you do instead?

To avoid unplanned pregnancy during threesome, discuss birth control options with the partners.

Make sure that there is absolutely no relaxation in adopting birth control measures even when one of the partners asks for it.

Apart from health reasons, these are the potential risks

Threesome breaks relationships, many say. However, several threesome partners say they have good and intimate relationships among them.

While relation issues are not exclusive to threesome, partners should always be careful about the health factor.
