Amid COVID concerns, the risk of other respiratory tract infections is also high. While each of the viral infections have their own classic symptoms, symptoms like runny nose, headache, muscle pain and fatigue are seen in all infections.

In China, COVID deaths go up to 9,000 per day finds research firm

As per the UK research firm Airfinity, the daily number of COVID deaths in China is around 9,000.

"Around 9,000 people in China are probably dying each day from COVID-19, UK-based health data firm Airfinity said on Thursday, nearly doubling its estimate from a week ago, as infections ripped across the world's most populous nation," Reuters reported on Thursday.

China likely to witness first COVID peak on January 13

The research firm has also said that the country is likely to see the first peak of COVID infections on January 13. It says the number of infections is likely to go up to 3.7 million cases a day.

It also predicts that on January 23, the COVID deaths is likely to be around 25,000 per day.

The firm uses modeling based on data retrieved from Chinese provinces before the recent changes to the reporting cases.

What is COVID death?

In simple terms, COVID death is death caused due to COVID.

Defining it in a clear way, deaths caused due to respiratory failure caused by COVID are considered as COVID death.

However, this excludes deaths from other diseases and health complications even if the dead person had tested positive for the coronavirus.

In India XBB is the dominant strain of COVID

Meanwhile, only four cases of BF.7 variant have been seen in India. The BF.7 variant is currently driving COVID cases in China.

However, health experts have asked people to not panic. The BF.7 variant was seen in India along with 90 other countries even before it started the mayhem in China.

XBB cases have reported mild symptoms so far.

Symptoms like runny nose, sore throat, fever, and headache are commonly seen in people infected with the XBB variant of the coronavirus.

One case of XBB.1.5 variant was reported in India.

"India does not have to worry about the new Covid variant of XBB.1.5 as 90% of its eligible population has been vaccinated, 30-40% have administered booster doses," Dr M Wali, Physician in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, told media.

However the expert has urged people to stay indoors and not step out as long as it is not required.

The classic COVID symptoms seen these days are…

Since the beginning of 2022, Omicron has remained the dominant strain of COVID. The sub variants of Omicron account for more than 95% of the cases reported worldwide.

However, milder cases have been seen during the Omicron led COVID infections. Hospitalisation cases have dropped down in comparison to what was seen during the Delta wave of COVID.

Omicron has no trademark symptom of its own, neither do its variants. However the top COVID symptoms that are mostly seen these days are congested nose, sore throat, fever and fatigue.

The symptoms are also seen in vaccinated individuals

ZOE health study, which has been one of the top trackers of COVID in the UK, has found few classic symptoms of COVID seen even in those people who have been vaccinated against the virus.

The symptoms are: sore throat, runny nose, blocked nose, sneezing, cough without phlegm, headache, cough with phlegm, hoarse voice, muscle aches and pains and an altered sense of smell.

Omicron sub variants fatal to the brain?

On Tuesday, Union Health Ministry tweeted from its official handle on claims that Omicron subvariant is fatal for the brain.

Calling it misleading and unverified, the health ministry has urged people to refer to authentic sources of information before sharing it further.
