5 traditional Indian practices worth following

We refuse to do a lot of things that our parents ask us to do, thinking that it's superstition and nothing more. But some of these habits are actually healthy for us and thus must be followed. This is why our parents try their best to pass down these habits to future generations.

These habits are passed down by our grandmoms to our moms and from them to us, expecting that we will pass them on to the next generation. Here is a list of six Indian traditional habits that are super good for our overall health.

​Hygiene

Though the coronavirus pandemic has made us all super concerned about our hygiene, but the practice of hygiene has been promoted in the Indian culture since ages. As per Indian culture, sharing food is a good habit, but sharing utensils or eating someone's jootha (half-eaten) food is an unhealthy and wrong practice. Even washing hands after using the bathroom and before eating are an integral part of Indian culture.

​Ayurveda

Our Prime Minister has recently encouraged citizens to have ayurvedic concoctions like kadha to boost your immunity. Indians have been treating, preventing and curing various health conditions with this traditional medicinal practice.

​Spices

Spices have been used since ages for their flavour and medicinal properties. While others around the country have now introduced fancy foods like turmeric latte and cinnamon latte now, Indians have been using all these spices in their food for flavour as well as medicinal properties. From cumin, turmeric, black pepper all the spices have their unique properties and help keep diseases at bay.

​Having a balanced diet

No matter which part of India you belong to, the food is served in thalis when served at home. Thalis have a variety of food in different quantities as required by the body. They even have a small portion of dessert in it. Even now, when we go to restaurants, thalis are served with a variety of food. Thus, thalis have always been the best way to consume a balanced meal.

​Sitting cross-legged and eating

The concept of sitting at a table and eating is not very old. People in olden times preferred sitting on the floor with folded legs (lotus pose) and eating. Sitting on the floor and eating aids digestion and thus is healthier.

Balanced diet? Lol Our traditional carb-heavy diet is suited to people who do a lot of physical activity. For those with sedentary lifestyle working in offices, ours is the worst possible diet. There is a reason why we're the diabetic capital of the world
