Eating this before exercise can help you burn more calories

Fueling your body before a workout is equally important as fueling it after the session. Eating the right kind of food before you hit the gym can make you feel more energetic and help you burn more calories, which is exactly what we want while trying to lose weight.

Today in this article, we will tell you exactly what you should eat before your workout to sweat like never before.

The study

A study published in the journal Nutrients tracked the exercise outcome of 43 healthy normal weighing people between the age of 18-35 years, based on the foods they ate before a workout.

During the course of the study, at 9:00 am some participants were given a control breakfast (CON) that consisted of whole wheat bread, peanut butter and orange juice. This combination amounted for 30 per cent fat, 55 per cent carbs and 15 per cent protein. The other group got a high-protein meal replacement (HR-MR), which was a blend of soy-protein nutritional supplement, olive oil and low-fat milk. The combination had 27 per cent fat, 30 per cent carbs and 43 per cent protein.

At 10:20 am, all the participants completed a 40-minute moderate exercise session on a treadmill. The hunger of all the participants was assessed at noon.

The results

It was found that the group eating high-protein breakfast produced higher fat oxidation during the exercise and stayed full afterwards too.

The results highlighted the impact HP-MR consumption has during and after an exercise session on the appetite sensation and energy metabolism of normal-weight healthy individuals.

Easy protein-rich breakfast idea

Black beans with omelette

Black beans are highly rich in protein. Make sure to use the whole egg and not just the egg white to reap more benefits. The yellow part of the egg is filled with choline, a nutrient that has proven to reduce body fat and BMI.
