Received some bad news? Here's help

Maybe it is the election results. Or a sudden announcement which might have caught you by surprise. We have all had our experiences dealing with bad news but the way we deal with them is very different. While some are able to digest the bitter pill and carry on with their day, for many, bad news can be a bad trigger for the health.

Nonetheless, it doesn't have to be this way. We tell you 5 hacks to learn to deal with the news in a better way: from bad news or disappointment in life. So, when you do get it, how do you process the information, deal with it, and move on with your life unscathed?

2/8

How do you deal with the news?

No one can actually stay immune from bad news or disappointment, ever. When we get to know something bad, we feel that we are in the center of all things terrible and think that the world is crashing down. This can drive you to the extremes and affect your mind and your gut, too. Showing signs of anger, stress, anxiety is the body's natural reaction to an event like this.

But, there is always a better way to go over things. It doesn't have to be this way. We tell you 6 hacks to master and deal with the news in a better way:

3/8

It's okay to have negative thoughts

First things first, accept that it is absolutely okay to have negative thoughts and react in a certain way after receiving bad news. Denying yourself negative emotions can give you more stress than possible, according to a study conducted by a California-based university. Allow yourself some time to breathe and react. This will help you deal with the terrible news at hand in a much better way.

4/8

Imagine the worst

Instead of biting your nails over what is happening, think of the worse things which could have happened. Remember, no matter how bad it is, it is not the end of the world. It is a good coping mechanism to adopt. You should focus on the strength you have and try to stay positive, in any way you can.

Think of things you can actually control. While you may not be able to control the bad news, you can always take control of how you react to it. Staying grounded, positive and assessing the situation can help you lower the stress levels.

5/8

Expose yourself to the triggers

You read a bad, triggering headline in the newspaper. What is the next thing you do? Fold away the pages and try to escape, right? But, instead of doing that, try to neutralize the event and expose yourself to the given situation or shock, if you may call it that way and then carry on with the work. It is a good strategy to adapt to beat the bad news and shut down the trigger alarms. Doing so neutralizes the event and gives you some breathing time to assess the situation.

6/8

Look for the healthier distractions

When people are stressed or anxious, they reach out for something comforting which can be anything like snacking on food or binge drinking. We know how harmful these can be. Instead of going for this, find support in something which is actually less harmful and relieving. It can be anything like meditating, listening to music or indulging in a hobby. The point is, put all the negative stress into something more productive.

7/8

Move and exercise

Exercising and moving around can be the very best way to beat stress. Studies have proved that engaging in physical activity of any kind, be it walking or heavy-duty cardio increases the production of endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers and do away with stress and negativity. So, for all means, move around if you can.

8/8

Do something charitable

In most negative situations, while you cannot control the situation, you can initiate an action or do something charitable and see the difference. It makes you feel in control of the situation and reduces the stress levels.
