As much as we love indulging in those soul satiating ladoos in winters, this is also the time when our body needs ample strength and energy to sustain the bone chilling weather and winter fatigue. Interestingly, every Indian region has a winter special recipe, which is the amalgamation of taste and nutrition. Most of these traditional recipes have been passed on through generations, so if you too are a fan of desi homemade ladoos, then read on as we have curated some of the popular winter ladoo recipes from different parts of India and we bet these ladoos are worth trying!

​Minapa Sunnundalu


Minapa Sunnundalu is a classic ladoo recipe from Andhra Pradesh. This ladoo is prepared for special occasions and festivals like Sankranti. To make this recipe, wash 1 cup of urad dal. Then pat dry and roast nicely. Next, powder the dal along with cardamom, 1/2 crushed jaggery, 1/2 cup mixed dry fruits and nuts, add 2 tablespoons of ghee. Mix it together and make small ladoos and enjoy. You can also powder the roasted dal and then mix sugar/jaggery and make the ladoos. To make the ladoos more delicious, you can roll them over some desiccated coconut.

​Til Ladoo or Til Naru


This delicacy ladoo is prepared in several parts of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, WestBengal, Assam during Makar Sankranti. Made with dry roasted sesame seeds and jaggery, this ladoo is great for winters as sesame and jaggery are usually warm in nature, which gives ample strength and nourishment to the body. To make this quick ladoo recipe, just wash and pat dry the sesame seeds before using. Next take a pan and dry roast the white sesame seeds. Transfer to a plate and to the same pan add some water, cardamom pods and crushed jaggery, make a smooth blend and add in the sesame. Roll small ladoos and enjoy. You can add some ghee if you want.

​Gond Ladoo


Gond Ladoo is a delicious and healthy recipe, which is usually prepared during winters. Made with the goodness of ghee, edible gum, dry fruits and jaggery, this ladoo recipe is great for growing kids, elderly, pregnant women or lactating mothers. To prepare this recipe, ghee roast the dry fruits and assorted nuts, transfer to a plate. Next, to the same pan add ghee, once it is hot add gond, toss it nicely. Transfer to a plate and then add refined flour to the ghee, keep stirring. Then add gond, powdered jaggery, dessicated coconut, dry fruit and nuts. Cook the ladoo mixture. Turn off the flame and roll small ladoos.

​Mawa Ladoo


This is a delicious North Indian ladoo, which is mostly made during winters. This nutritious ladoo is packed with the goodness of iron, fiber and antioxidants. To make this quick ladoo, take 1 cup of pitted medjool dates, 1/2 cup khoya 1/2 cup of walnuts crushed, 1/2 cup pistachios, 1/2 cup almonds, 1/2 cup of raisins.

Heat a pan and add ghee, once the ghee is hot, add in mashed dates, khoya, mix well and cook the mixture. Gradually add in the rest of the ingredients. Turn off the flame and make small ladoos. Keep them in an airtight container and enjoy.

​Ragi Ladoos


Ragi ladoos are a quintessential sweet prepared in most South Indian households. Traditionally, these ladoos were prepared for expecting women or lactating mothers to give them the much needed nutrition. To make this easy ladoo recipe, 1 cup of ragi, 1 cup of crushed peanuts, 1/2 cup of almonds, 1/2 cup desiccated coconut, 1 cup powdered jaggery,1/2 cup sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons of ghee.

Take a pan and add ghee, dry roast the nuts and dry fruits, transfer to a plate, then cook the ragi flour. Mix it with sesame, roasted dry fruits and nuts, powdered jaggery. Mix it all together. Roll small bite sized ladoos and enjoy.
