4 common foods to avoid

We often think that we are eating healthy and nutritious foods. But still we feel low on energy, lethargic, and lacking motivation. According to Sadhguru, it happens because of eating the wrong food, wrong timing, and wrong technique. In a YouTube video, he recently explained the yogic perspective on foods that are not supportive for overall well-being and can cause ill health. This piece of article explores the 4 common foods he suggests to avoid and why.

2/5

Tuberous vegetables

According to Sadhguru, if you eat too much of tuberous vegetables like potatoes and other substances, it will generate gas between the prana and the navel and the pit of the throat and affect their functioning. The only root vegetables that are good to be consumed regularly are carrot and radish, adds Sadhguru.

3/5

Dairy products for adults

Dairy products have certain enzymes, which are used today to manufacture certain textile adhesives. These adhesives are not water soluble. So when you consume a lot of dairy products, it goes and sticks in your colon. So, the waste material which should have easily flown out, will not flow out of the system. This impacts the general alertness in the body and mind.

4/5

Meat products

According to Sadhguru, it is an established fact that in your present system, if you eat raw meat it would take anywhere from 70 to 72 hours to pass through the system. If you eat cooked meat it would take 50 to 54 hours to pass through the system. And on the other hand, if you eat cooked vegetarian meals, it will take 24 to 30 hours to pass through the system. And if you eat uncooked vegetables, it will take 12 to 15 hour to digest. He also states that if you eat a fruit it will take 1.5 to 3 hours to pass through. He states that the digestion time of meat reflects that it's a hot bed for illness in many ways. Hence, he suggests practicing the habit of eating more consciously for a healthier tomorrow. Also, high meat diets can contribute to weight gain and chronic inflammation in some individuals.

Food cooked over 1.5 hours ago

In yogic tradition, food is best eaten within 1.5 hours of cooking. If necessary, it can be kept for up to 4 hours, depending on the dish and storage. Beyond that, it’s believed to cause gas, restlessness, and other bodily issues. Sadhguru notes it may also impact breathing, mental clarity, the sense of smell, and hunger.
