Holistic ways to boost immunity

While the nip in the air soothes the soul and makes us feel the arrival of winter, it also brings in a lot of seasonal health issues. And that is when it becomes crucial to take extra care of the immune system. From Ayurveda to medical science, it has been said that the Indian kitchen treasures some of the best remedies that boost immunity in the most natural manner. And even Sadhguru supports these remedies and recommends adding these foods to the daily diet to boost immunity. As per a portal description on the Isha Foundation website, he recommends these three foods as holistic ways of boosting immunity. Scroll down to read the details and benefits.

Neem

According to Sadhguru's post summary, neem is a natural herb that comes from the neem tree. Its consumption is beneficial for the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems, the urinary tract and the reproductive system. On a broader scale, neem supports the natural cleansing of the body, and the rejuvenation of healthy tissues. The post also mentions that regular intake of neem helps maintain a healthy digestive system, strengthens the immune system and liver function, helps maintain a good metabolism, helps maintain a healthy respiratory system, and has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, antiseptic & antifungal properties. It also supports healthy blood sugar levels, blood purification & detoxification of the overall body. They also help in boosting the digestive system during the seasonal change. They destroy the excess bacteria in the intestinal region and cleanses the colon. According to a study, neem and its active constituents have antioxidant properties, aid cancer management by regulating tumor suppressor genes and molecular pathways, and show anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects. At core, these effects are mainly linked to neem leaf and seed extracts.

Turmeric

As per the blog post summary, it is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant and is commonly used in Asian food. And when we talk about its benefits, it helps reduce inertia in the body, promotes healthy joints, helps purify the blood, body & energies, supports respiratory function and can prevent cancer as well, the summary reads. According to a study titled, The Impact of Curcumin on Immune Response: An Immunomodulatory Strategy to Treat Sepsis, curcumin exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and key inflammatory pathways like NF-kB, which reduces inflammation and may help prevent immune-related diseases.

Water in copper bottle

Sadhguru also recommends drinking water stored in copper bottles. As per his post, water stored in copper vessels can play a significant role in cleansing our system of various toxins. “Because water has memory, we are very concerned with how we store it. If you keep water in a copper vessel, preferably overnight or at least for four hours, the water acquires a certain quality from the copper which is very good for your liver in particular and your health and energy in general,” he states. The post also reads that copper is an antimicrobial and it kills bacteria and viruses, sometimes within minutes. According to a study, published in the Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition, scientists studied the effect of storing water in a copper container on microbially contaminated drinking water, including harmful bacteria such as E.coli. and salmonella. Water contaminated with this bacterium was stored in copper containers for 16 hours at room temperature. Incredibly, after the 16-hour storage period, the scientists were unable to recover the bacteria from the water. In addition, they found that the pH level of the water increased, which means that it became naturally more alkaline.
