What happens when you drink Ginger Coriander Coffee

Sadhguru always talks about eating healthy and living a simple and peaceful life. And all of this begins with a slow and healthy morning routine, where you pay attention to what you put inside the body after a good night's sleep. While there are many morning drinks that one can have, he suggests trying Ginger Coriander Coffee, also known as Sukku Coffee, in the morning. Sukku Coffee is a traditional South Indian herbal drink made not from coffee beans, but from dry ginger (sukku). It’s a comforting, caffeine-free decoction popular in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and parts of Karnataka, known for its warming, healing properties. Dry ginger is boiled with water, pepper, coriander seeds, palm jaggery or jaggery, and sometimes tulsi or cardamom, creating a soothing drink that boosts digestion, clears congestion, and energizes the body naturally. Scroll down to read the recipe and its benefits.

What does Sadhguru say?

According to Sadhguru, Ginger Coriander (Sukku) coffee is a hot non-caffeinated beverage that offers an array of health benefits, from aiding digestion and soothing a sore throat to relieving nausea, bloating and other common ailments. In India, Ayurvedic texts consider ginger to be one of the most important herbs available, to the extent of describing it as an entire medicine chest in itself. Ayurvedic practitioners prescribe ginger as a powerful digestive aid since it fuels digestive fire, whets the appetite, and clears the body’s microcirculatory channels. It is also helpful to drink ginger tea after a large meal to reduce bloating and flatulence. If your stomach problems are more severe, you can also take ginger to help alleviate the various symptoms of food poisoning. He also states that ginger is very good at subsiding various types of nausea and vomiting, including morning sickness in pregnant women, motion sickness in travellers, and even nausea in chemotherapy patients. Ginger contains a very potent anti-inflammatory compound called gingerol, which is the substance responsible for alleviating joint and muscle pain. According to a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, ginger affects certain inflammatory processes at a cellular level. Research at the University of Sydney in Australia found ginger to be effective in glycemic control for people with type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the Planta Medica journal, showed that ginger extracts can increase uptake of glucose into muscle cells without using insulin, therefore it may assist in the management of high blood sugar levels, he mentions in his post. Also, their natural diuretic effect helps flush out toxins, support kidney function, and reduce water retention. Coriander seeds may also help regulate blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with insulin resistance.

What does study say about coriander seeds?

According to a study titled Coriandrum sativum L.: A Review on Ethnopharmacology, Phytochemistry, and Cardiovascular Benefits, coriander seeds can be deemed a functional food due to its wide range of cardiovascular benefits such as antihypertensive, anti-atherogenic, antiarrhythmic, hypolipidemic as well as cardioprotective effects. These seeds can help alleviate common digestive ailments such as bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, and gas. The high fiber content in coriander seeds acts as a mild laxative, promoting regular bowel movements and reducing constipation risk. Additionally, coriander seeds' essential oils possess antispasmodic properties that help relax digestive muscles, relieve stomach cramps, and reduce excessive gas formation. Coriander seeds help the body flush out toxins through urine and are mildly diuretic, reducing water retention. They may help improve insulin activity and lower blood sugar levels when consumed regularly (as coriander seed water). It is also said that because of their anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties, they help reduce acne, rashes, and skin irritation.
