Tips to prevent bloating effectively

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. As per nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, skipping breakfast is not a healthy practice. It often leads to consuming more calories later in the day, which often leads to gut health issues. Addressing the same, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a list of top 4 breakfast drinks that can help prevent bloating and keep the gut healthy and the body energized.

2/6

Green Tea

Green tea contains antioxidants and catechins that promote gut health and help prevent bloating.

How to make: Start by boiling 2 cups of water in a pan. Add one teaspoon of green tea leaves or a green tea bag and steep for 2–3 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. Strain the leaves and serve hot.

3/6

Matcha

As per Saurabh, matcha is a concentrated form of green tea. It contains about 3 times more antioxidants than regular green tea.
How to make: For this, sift 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl to remove any clumps. Add a small amount of hot water and whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion using a bamboo whisk until the tea becomes frothy and smooth. Gradually add more hot water to fill the cup. Serve.

4/6

Black tea

It is another good option as per Saurabh. It has a lot of polyphenols and antioxidants.

How to make: Boil 1 cup water in a saucepan. Add one teaspoon of black tea leaves (or a tea bag) and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes, Once the leaves release their rich color and aroma, strain the tea into a cup. Serve hot.

5/6

Peppermint tea

It is excellent for those suffering from bloating and IBS-like symptoms.

How to make: Boil 1 cup water, add 6–8 fresh peppermint leaves or 1 tsp dried peppermint and bring it to a boil. Add 1 tsp honey or jaggery and 1 tsp lemon juice (optional). Serve hot for a soothing, refreshing drink.

6/6

Note

Adding milk or sweeteners to these drinks may lead to bloating, so consider using lactose-free milk or plant-based milk. And for sweeteners, Saurabh suggests stevia or monk fruit without erythritol additive.
