According to experts, tamarind is a rich source of nutrients that are healthy for mother and unborn baby too. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that not only help boost the immunity system but also help women tend to lean toward it during pregnancy because of its tangy and sweet taste.

Tamarind as a rich source of iron balances the increased volume of blood in the body that further reduces the chances of premature birth and also brings down the chances of low birth weight of the baby.

The potassium content present in tamarind lowers the blood pressure levels among women who suffer from high blood pressure during pregnancy.

Effective against morning sickness

Consuming tamarind during the first trimester, helps control morning sickness that often includes vomiting and nausea. The laxative effect of tamarind on the stomach helps control such symptoms.

Tamarind is rich in niacin (nicotinamide) or vitamin B3,4 which fulfils about 10% of the daily nutrients requirement of a pregnant woman that further helps in the development of nerves, brain, digestive system of the foetus.
