This is why mixing mango and milk is not a great idea

This is why mixing mango and milk is not a great idea

Consuming milk and mango is one of the most loved food combinations, but is it actually good?According to Ayurveda, mango and milk are considered incompatible food combinations. Mango is a sweet, pulpy fruit that’s high in natural sugars and fiber, while milk is a heavy animal-based product that takes longer to digest. When consumed together, this combination may create a digestive conflict, leading to fermentation in the gut, which can cause bloating, gas, and indigestion, especially in individuals with sensitive stomachs.

2/5

Risk of Toxin Formation

Ayurveda also warns that mixing milk with certain fruits, including mangoes, may lead to the formation of “ama” – a term used to describe toxins that result from improper digestion. Ama is believed to accumulate in the body and contribute to low immunity, skin problems, and sluggish metabolism. Regular consumption of such incompatible foods can thus gradually hamper overall health and wellness.

3/5

Potential for Skin Issues

Many holistic health practitioners believe that improper food combinations can manifest externally as skin problems. The undigested residue from mango and milk may cause internal inflammation, which can contribute to issues like acne, rashes, or allergies. People prone to skin breakouts may find that avoiding this combination improves their complexion over time.

4/5

Lactose Intolerance Concerns

People who are lactose intolerant may find the mango-milk combo especially problematic. The natural acidity in mangoes can make it harder for the body to process lactose, leading to stomach cramps, nausea, or diarrhea. Instead of aiding digestion, mangoes can end up intensifying discomfort when paired with milk.

Healthier Alternatives Exist

Instead of mixing fresh mango with milk, it’s better to consume them separately with some time gap. If you're craving a mango milkshake, ensure the mango is ripe, sweet, and the milk is either boiled and cooled or plant-based (like almond or oat milk) to reduce the risk of fermentation. Alternatively, enjoy mangoes as is or pair them with yogurt for a lighter and easier-to-digest treat.
