Acne causing food items

Always dealing with acne and pimples which just refuse to go? Your food habits might be the reason behind them. Wrong food choices can lead to acne which might become a constant part of your face. These pimples can leave a mark on your face even after fading away. There are a number of food items that are a regular part of your diet that can play a part in contributing to that troublesome acne.

2/7

Dairy products

Consuming dairy products like cheese, full-fat yoghurt and ice cream can be the main culprits behind those painful pimples in some people. Cow’s milk contains amino acids that are said to stimulate the liver to produce more IGF-1, which has been linked to the development of acne.

People who are lactose intolerant can also develop pimples on the face and rashes on the neck after consuming dairy products.

3/7

Refined foods

Foods loaded with refined grains such as bread, white pasta, cereals and maida noodles are said to trigger acne. These foods contain a high quantity of carbohydrates that can have a direct impact on your blood sugar levels.

One study found that people who regularly consumed foods with added sugars had a 30% greater risk of developing acne, while those who regularly ate pastries and cakes had a 20% greater risk.

4/7

Chocolate

Fond of eating chocolates? This might be a matter of concern for you. Eating chocolates too are linked with an increase in breakouts. Chocolates loaded with cocoa, milk and sugar can make your immune system react strongly to acne-causing bacteria. This can further cause more acne and pimples on your face.

5/7

Deep-fried foods

If you often deal with acne, people might have told you to limit your consumption of deep-fried food. Rightly so, greasy foods like fries, burgers, pakoras and other such food can not only increase your weight but can also leave your skin acne-prone. Regular consumption of deep-fried foods can make your skin oily which promotes breakout.

6/7

Whey protein powder

Whey protein powder is consumed mostly by people who are going to the gym and want to build their muscles. It is a rich source of proteins and amino acids like leucine and glutamine. It can cause an increase in hormone named IGF-1, otherwise known as insulin-like growth factor 1. An increased level of this hormone can further cause acne and pimples

7/7

Omega-6 fats

If you already have acne-prone skin, you need to stay away from foods containing Omega-6 fats. These foods include soybean, cornflakes, sunflower oil and nuts. These foods are inflammatory in nature and can cause your skin to flare up. These can lead to more oil production in your skin and further cause painful pimples.
