Foods to be served at swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi

After the massive win in 17th Lok Sabha Elections, today, Narendra Modi will once again swear-in as the Prime Minister of India along with the other members of the Union Council at 7 pm at Rashtrapati Bhavan. As a part of the tradition, the evening will see high-tea and dinner hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind. The sprawling premises of Rashtrapati Bhavan is expected to host around 6,000 eminent people and dignitaries that will also include members of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation). Here’s a glimpse of the delicacies that will be served and details about how much time is invested in the preparation of menu for such large gatherings.

2/9

Paneer Tikka

Made with a marinade of ground spices and paneer cubes that are slowly grilled in tandoor, this Indian snack is served with mint and red chutney. The red chutney served at Rashtrapati Bhavan has a unique tanginess and is a secret recipe that in-house chefs have developed.
3/9

Samosa

From mini to regular samosas, the finger foods of Rashtrapati Bhavan have always been in news. We guess that this time also, the samosas will have a tasteful stuffing of dry fruits, boiled potatoes or cottage cheese.
4/9

Sandwich

Sandwich, as a healthy snack also comes in varied forms including paneer slices, grated cucumber, sauteed mushroom and so on. This one will surely keep the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) members happy and filled.
5/9

Dal Raisina

Made with black urad dal, tomato puree, saffron and a pinch of kasuri methi, this dish is a speciality of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Chef Machindra Kasture, National Tourism Award winner and Executive Chef of The Ashok who is also, the First Resident Chef of Rashtrapati Bhavan for 8 years and has served two former Presidents of India says, “Dal Raisina was first introduced in 2010 during the tenure of Smt Pratibha Patil (ji) and since then it has become a part of the menu served for special occasions.”

6/9

Rajbhog

Soft and tender dessert, that is also an integral part of Bengali cuisine will surprise the guests also with other options made with seasonal fruits like mango and watermelon.
7/9

Lemon Tart

We guess this one is added to surprise the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) members during the high-tea and dinner treat.
8/9

How much time is invested in the preparation of such functions?

According to Machindra, functions like swearing-in ceremony requires a week's preparation, whereas ‘At Home’ dinner function hosted by the President involves an army of chefs working for more than a month that involves conceptualisation, innovation and execution of dishes.
9/9

Verdict

While the world will be busy watching the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his style sense for the gala evening, we wish to have a glimpse of the lavish spread in the banquet of Rashtrapati Bhavan, that will keep the guests busy throughout the evening.
