Never reheat these common foods before eating

If you are someone who loves eating warm food each time, then you need to stop and read this! Eating warm food is a common practice in most households, as it revives the taste and enhances the meal experience. But do you know that not every food is meant to be reheated, as it tends to lose its taste, texture and goodness? Some foods can pose health risks or become less enjoyable when reheated. So, here are 12 foods you should avoid reheating at all costs:

2/6

Rice

Rice is one of the most common foods that we reheat almost frequently. But you will be amazed to know that rice can be a breeding ground for bacteria, especially Bacillus cereus, which can survive cooking. When rice is left at room temperature and then reheated, these bacteria can multiply and produce toxins that may cause food poisoning. An easy tip to avoid that is to cook rice in small batches and refrigerate it promptly. Reheat only the portion you intend to eat and make sure it’s steaming hot throughout.

3/6

Potatoes

Cooked potatoes can develop a condition called botulism if they are not stored properly. When potatoes are cooked and then left out or reheated, they can harbor bacteria that produce toxins. To avoid that, just store cooked potatoes in the refrigerator promptly and reheat them only once. Avoid leaving cooked potatoes at room temperature for extended periods.

4/6

Mushrooms

Mushrooms contain proteins and nutrients that can change when reheated, potentially causing digestive issues. They can also become tough and less palatable. Cook the mushrooms fresh and eat them immediately. If you need to store them, do so in the refrigerator and avoid reheating leftovers.

5/6

Pizza

Reheating pizza can result in soggy crusts and unevenly melted cheese. Additionally, if pizza is not stored properly, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Smart way to deal with this is by storing leftover pizza in the refrigerator and reheat it in an oven or toaster oven to maintain its texture. Avoid reheating it multiple times.

6/6

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like kale, collard greens, and Swiss chard contain nitrates, which can convert into nitrites when reheated. This can pose health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children.

A simple tip for this is to just eat leafy greens fresh or store them properly and consume them within a day or two. Avoid reheating greens to preserve their nutritional benefits.
