Is it safe to eat cooked chicken kept in a refrigerator?

Everyone loves a good chicken dinner, but ever wondered how long is the time span of cooked chicken? While cooked chicken may last in the fridge for three to four days, there are chances it may turn bad before that. Here are some signs to check before you chuck out the chicken.

2/5

Smell

There are times when spoiled chicken does not show any signs of turning bad. Chicken marinated with herbs and sauces is hard to judge because it tastes and smells the same. But if one has a ‘sharp’ nose, it can be perceived.

3/5

Texture

Spoiled chicken turns slimy in texture and no amount of rinsing or reheating can ensure killing of the bacteria and the toxins. If the chicken is slimy, its time to bid goodbye to it ASAP.

4/5

Appearance

If the chicken has greyish, green mould on its surface, then its time to throw it away. Spoiled chicken tends to turn greyish if kept for too long.

What happens if we eat spoiled chicken?

Although it is suggested to discard the stale chicken, if you by chance eat it, don’t panic. There are chances that it may not affect you at all! In severe cases, eating spoiled chicken can lead to food poisoning and diarrhea.

Storing your cooked chicken in a clean and dry, airtight container or sealing it in an unused, food-grade plastic bag will help in keeping the chicken fresh and safe for four days.
