Kulhad chai: What makes it so special

Sipping chai in a tapri along with friends is always a welcome change or even a daily routine for some. Chai is important or rather an essential for us Indians. Chai, when served in kulhads, becomes extra sweet and special. For us, chai, especially in kulhad is not just a beverage-it is an emotion. Apart from all the fond memories, kulhad chai also gives us a list of health benefits and here is what makes it a better choice than the chai served in cups and glasses. (image credits-istock)

2/6

Hygenic

Drinking chai in kulhad is way more hygienic than drinking in glasses and cups that have been used and washed again and again. Kulhads on the other hand, are for one time use only. The threat of spreading bacteria is high when drinking chai in used glasses from tapris. The muddy kulhads are disposed off the moment one finishes off the chai and thus one is not exposed to diseases as bacteria don’t spread though kulhad wali chai. (image credits-istock)

3/6

Source of calcium

Soil is full of calcium content. Drinking chai in a kulhad makes our bones strong as it ensures that we get at least some of the nutrient content from the clay that has been used in making the kulhad. (image credist-istock)

4/6

Earthly aroma

The taste of tea in Kulhad is enhanced due to the aroma of the clay used in making it. The clay kulhad is not an inert serving bowl-but adds to the aroma and flavour of the tea. (Image credits-istock)

5/6

Eco friendly

Kulhads are made of just mud and soil. The moment kulhads are disposed off, they mix into the earth with time and do not contribute to any kind of pollution. (image credits-istock)

6/6

Alkaline

Soil has a rich alkaline content which cools down the acid present in the human body. Kulhad chai doesn’t bring much change in the acid content inside body.

The tradition of drinking chai in kulhad has been a part of Indian culture since ages. While utensils made of clay are used mainly in villages, the concept of using soil utensils have gradually started to trend and many are trying to replace glass crockeries with the ones made of mud (image credits-istock)
