How to make classic South Indian Onion Masala Dosa for dinner

Right way to make Onion Masala Dosa

This is for all the dosa lovers, who are bored of eating out and wish to try dosa at home. Try this onion stuffing dosa at home. The caramelized onions gives the dosa a subtle sweetness that pairs well with coconut chutney and spicy sambar. Scroll down to read the recipe.

Ingredients

2 cups rice, ½ cup urad dal, 2 tbsp poha, salt to taste, water as required, 2 tbsp oil, 2 onions, 2-3 green chilies, ½ tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 3-5 curry leaves, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp oil, salt to taste, and coriander leaves

Soak rice, urad dal, and poha separately for 4–6 hours.

Grind them into a smooth batter with water. Add salt and let it ferment overnight.

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.

Add sliced onions and green chilies. Sauté until onions turn golden. Add turmeric powder and salt. Cook for a minute. Switch off. Top it with coriander leaves.

Heat a non-stick or dosa tawa. Pour a ladleful of batter in the center and spread it in a circular motion to make it thin. Drizzle a few drops of oil.

When it starts getting golden and crisp, place some onion masala in the center.

Fold the dosa over the filling and serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
