​Easy sweets to prepare during Ganesh Chaturthi


Ganesh Chaturthi is around the corner and the festive fervour can be felt everywhere. Devotees welcome Bappa to their home and celebrate the 10-day long festival by observing rituals, performing puja, aarti and preparing lavish feasts to seek the blessings of almighty.

Lord Ganesha is known for his love of sweets and it is impossible to imagine this festival without delicious Modak. However, there are several other traditional delights that are prepared at home and offered as a bhog to Bappa. Let’s take a look at some of the popular sweets prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi and what makes them so special!

​Basundi


In some parts of Maharashtra and other western regions Basundi is prepared as a bhog to offer to Lord Ganesha during the pooja. This thick creamy dessert can be made in just a few minutes. To make this delicious Basundi, just take a pan and add full fat milk, keep stirring, once the milk turns slightly thick in consistency, add powdered sugar, saffron strands, cardamom powder and loads of dry fruits and nuts cook for a minute or so and Basundi is ready! Serve as a prasad and garnish with flaked almonds and pistachios.

​Modak Kheer


Kheer is a popular sweet prepared in almost every household to celebrate special festivals and occasions, but this kheer is a mélange of two delightful desserts in one. To make this classic Modak Kheer, just make a simple milk rabri or kheer by boiling milk and adding sugar, fresh cream, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Once the milk turns thick, add small Modaks or just make a simple sweet steamed Modak with rice flour, water, ghee and sugar. Simmer the kheer for 5-8 minutes. Garish the way you like and offer as prasad to Bappa.

​Shrikhand


This curd-based dessert is prepared in Gujarat and Maharashtra. To make this quick dessert, just run curd through a muslin cloth, tie the cloth and add a weight to squeeze out the water, keep it aside overnight. Next, take out the curd, add saffron strands mixed with some milk, powdered sugar and cardamom powder. Along with crushed dry fruits and nuts. Pour in serving bowls and refrigerate. Serve as a bhog and enjoy it later with family and friends.

​Fried Modak


Every house has a secret recipe to welcome Bappa, and there are several types of Modaks prepared during this festival. But this Fried Modak is a unique one! To make this quick Modak, prepare a simple Modak with wheat flour at home and stuff it with coconut jaggery mixture. Lastly, deep fry the Modak and seve hot.

​Puran Poli


Another delicacy prepared to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi is a Puran Poli, which is also known as Holige or Bobbatu in South India. This delicacy is basically a flatbread made with chana dal, jaggery and ghee.
