5 foods that Lord Ganesha loves

The 10-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is here and the festive fervour can be felt in the air. Lord Ganesha’s love for sweet delicacies makes the festive feast more delightful.

According to the Hindu mythology Lord Ganesha was also named as ‘Modapriya’ for his immense love for Modaks and it was believed that it was his favourite food. In fact, it is believed that offering 21 Modaks as a bhog can satiate Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva at the same time. This is why devotees prepare several sweet delicacies in these 10-days to seek Bappa’s blessings.

However, there are some other sweet foods as well that were believed to be Bappa's favourites. Let's take a look at them.

Modaks are Lord Ganesha's favourite foods so much so that he is also known as ‘Modapriya'. There are several stories that mention his love for the sweet dumplings. Made with rice flour, coconut, jaggery and steamed to perfection, devotees prepare several types of Modak and offer them as a prasad.

Motichoor Ladoos

Another most loved food of Lord Ganesha is laddoo. His love for laddoos has been mentioned in the ancient books of mythology. His love for laddoos is such that every picture of Ganesha is incomplete without these sweets.

Puffed Rice Ladoo

Ganesha's love for good food was so insatiable that when Kubrera invited him for a meal. Lord Ganesha wasn’t happy with the food and wanted to eat more. It was believed that Lord Shiva suggested offering him some puffed rice with devotion. It was believed that right after that his hunger was satiated. This is why Murmura jaggery ladoo is prepared and offered as a bhog to Lord Ganesha.

Kheer

Kheer is believed to be God’s most loved food and this is the reason why kheer is a quintessential part of almost every Indian festival. On the occasion of Vinayak Chaturthi, several types of Kheer recipes are made with milk such as Basundi, Pala Thalikalu, Pala Undrallu to name a few.

6/6

Bananas

Garlands made of banana are offered to Lord Ganpati on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. This is because Lord Ganesha loves bananas and according to the Bengali traditions he is married to Kola Bou (Banana tree). This is the reason why Ganesha Puja is incomplete without bananas.
