From Jowar Upma to Masala Sattu: This is what Parliament's new 'health menu' offers

Parliament's new 'health menu'

In recent times, when healthy eating has become a lifestyle habit, every institution has been emphasizing healthy and sustainable eating practices. In the same league, Parliament's canteen has also revamped its menu and introduced a new 'health menu.' According to reports, the step is initiated by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and the change in menu supports wellness without compromising taste and nutrition. The new menu has been designed under the guidance of nutrition experts and is in line with the national health campaigns. Interestingly, each dish comes with a calorie tag next to it, which aims to promote mindful eating. The revamped menu also includes delicious curries and elaborate ‘thalis’.

Millet-based breakfast

The millet-based breakfast includes ragi idli with sambar, packed with 270 kcal, jowar upma with 206 kcal, moong dal chilla and chana chaat are also a part of the menu.

Non-veg dishes


For non-vegetarians, they have lean-proteins sources like grilled chicken paired with boiled veggies 157 kcal, grilled fish 378 kcal.

Snacks and beverages

The snack menu for members include garden fresh salads offering 113 kcal, and comforting soups like tomato and basil shorba. The beverages menu includes green and herbal teas, masala sattu and jaggery-flavoured mango panna replacing sugar-laden sodas and traditional sweets.

Sweet dishes


For those with a sweet tooth, they are serving sugar-free millet kheer with 161 kcal.
