​What is Dhanteras?​


The word Dhanteras comes from Sanskrit, where Dhan refers to wealth, while Teras refers to the 13th day of the Hindu lunar calendar. It is marked on the Thrayodashi Tithi (13th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. It is celebrated two days before the festival of Diwali, and on this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber. On this day, it is considered auspicious to buy gold, silver, haldi, broom, salt, and coriander seeds. Also, buying utensils made of brass and copper and vehicles is considered auspicious. ​Why do we buy coriander seeds on Dhanteras?​


On Dhanteras, buying coriander seeds is considered highly beneficial. It is suggested to buy the seeds on the auspicious day and offer them to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantri. After expressing your wishes and desires to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantri, bury some seeds at a designated place in your house. ​Why do we buy salt on Dhanteras? ​


It is considered auspicious to buy salt on Dhanteras, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi is pleased by buying salt. On the day of Dhanteras, it is suggested to buy a packet of salt with your own money, and on the day of Diwali, cook food using the same salt to bring prosperity, good health, and happiness to the family.
