Food details of Howrah-Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper

In India, train journeys are not just about reaching the destination,it's also about nature, open sky, wild fields, and flavours that the journey offers. And when it comes to flavours, the food served in trains becomes an integral part of the experience. With the launch of India's first Vande Bharat sleeper train on the Howrah-Kamakhya route, the IRCTC new menu for the route has become the highlight for the travellers. The service, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, features a food line-up inspired by the flavours of Bengal and Assam. As per reports, the menu has been curated by Mayfair Spring Valley Resort in Guwahati in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).With a focus on regional identity, seasonal ingredients and vegetarian dishes, the food menu aims to give travellers a taste of Eastern and Northeastern India as they journey overnight. What makes the menu special?


As per reports, the IRCTC and the expert team at Mayfair Spring Valley Resort have together made two distinctive vegetarian menu options, one that reflects the culinary traditions of West Bengal and the other one features Assam’s regional flavours. It is also reported that every dish is made with locally grown herbs from neighbouring farms, providing a nutritious and complete dining experience to travellers.

Bengali treat


It is reported that passengers will get to taste Bengali dishes like basanti pulao, cholar dal, moong dal, chanar and dhokar preparations.

Assamese feast


The menu will also include traditional dishes of Assam, which will include joha rice, mati mohar, masoor dali and seasonal vegetable bhajis. It is reported that the focus will remain on gentle flavours and local produce, making the meals easy to enjoy while travelling.

Desserts


It is also reported by other media houses that dishes like sandesh, narikol burfi and rasgulla will feature in the dessert menu, reflecting the flavours of Bengal and Assam.

What makes this train special

For the unversed, Howrah-Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper is India's first overnight Vande Bharat service, covering nearly 1,000 km. The fully air-conditioned train features 16 sleeper coaches, comprising First AC, AC 2-tier, and AC 3-tier classes, which accommodate approximately 823 passengers.
