Common kitchen spices for weight loss

When it comes to weight loss, apart from the two main steps that you need to take, that is healthy diet and exercise, you also need to ensure that you include all the complementary factors in your diet that can aid the weight loss. Our Indian kitchen is full of ingredients that are power-packed with health benefits. There are certain ingredients that we use on a daily basis and we have no idea that they can also help in burning fat. From turmeric and cinnamon to cumin and cayenne pepper, here are some common kitchen spices that can aid weight loss. (image credits- istock)

Cayenne pepper

It is a known fact that a faster metabolism leads to quicker weight loss. In order to speed up your metabolism, include Cayenne Pepper in your diet. This pepper warms up your body naturally which helps with weight loss. If you are a spice lover, then you can just sprinkle Cayenne pepper powder on your veggies or curries. (image credits- istock)

Turmeric

Turmeric is a naturally warming spice that can increase the temperature of the body, which further gives a boost to the metabolism. It also helps in weight loss by regulating blood sugar levels and preventing insulin resistance. This further prevents fats from getting deposited in the body. Most Indian dishes contain turmeric, however, you can also have turmeric tea or turmeric milk before bed to boost the weight loss process. (image credits- istock)

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is said to prevent sugar spikes and hunger pangs. The best way to use cinnamon is by adding it to your tea. Just boil a cup of water with an inch of cinnamon stick in it. Simmer it for five minutes, strain the tea, add some lemon juice and drink it. The combination of cinnamon and lemon will fasten the weight loss process. (image credits- istock)

Cumin

According to a recent study conducted on overweight women, adding one tablespoon of cumin seeds to your primary meals every day can help you burn three times more fat than usual. Cumin is such a versatile ingredient that you can add it to your soups, curries, veggies and even make tea with it. (image credits- istock)

6/8

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is considered an effective spice for weight loss and for all the right reasons. According to experts, Galactomannan, a water-soluble heteropolysaccharide is found in fenugreek seeds that boosts the weight loss process by reducing fat accumulation. The best way to consume fenugreek is by soaking fenugreek seeds in a glass overnight and drinking the water after straining the seeds the next morning. (image credits- istock)

Red chilli powder

For all the spice lovers out there, here is some good news for you. Red chilli powder can not only spruce up the flavours of the food but can also help you lose weight. Red chillies contain a compound called capsaicin that has thermogenic properties. Because of this, your body burns more calories by generating more heat. (image credits- istock)

Ginger

Ginger too has thermogenic properties, just like red chillies, which can fasten the weight loss process. Ginger also helps in controlling a blood sugar spike after you eat a carb or sugar-rich diet. It can also suppress the appetite and prevent untimely cravings. You can add ginger to dal, sabzi, curries, tea, salads and even soups. (image credits- istock)
