Bread Upma


This is a version of classic South Indian upma, and to make it, simply cut bread slices into cubes and add them to a tempering of curry leaves, mustard seeds, peanuts, and cook along with onions, capsicum, salt, turmeric, and pepper.

As the name suggests, it is a main course dish, where chopped veggies are combined with mashed breads, shaped into kofta balls, deep fried and then dunked in tomato-onion curry. It goes well with both roti and rice.

This steamed dish is made with breadcrumb, which is replaced with besan and combined with sooji and curd, steamed to perfection and then topped with a tempering of curry leaves, mustard seeds, and green chilli.
