Expert reveals how certain foods can help reduce and prevent bloating

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But does it also happen with you that after eating a king-size breakfast, you start feeling bloated and heavy? If yes, then this piece of information is for you. In a video shared on Instagram, Dr. Joseph Salhab, a gastroenterologist, talked about 6 breakfast foods that won't cause bloating. According to Dr. Salhab, these 6 foods are rich in digestive enzymes that will help you lead a lighter and more energetic morning. Scroll down to read the details.

2/7

Avocado

According to the gastroenterologist, avocado contains digestive enzymes that help break down fats. Digestive enzymes like lipase and amylase (which is found in small amounts) help the body digest and absorb healthy fats more efficiently and help break down carbohydrates into simple sugars respectively.

3/7

Sourdough bread

For those who are looking for a good breakfast bread that is lower in gluten, lower in fructans, which means the bread that causes less gas production, and contains prebiotics, then, according to Dr Salhab, one should try sourdough bread. “It's amazing for your gut health,” he mentioned in the video.

4/7

Pineapple

As per the gastroenterologist, pineapple contains bromelain, which helps digest proteins, thus boosting the gut health and avoiding bloating. It’s a proteolytic enzyme, meaning it helps break down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. Bromelain also has anti-inflammatory effects and is sometimes used to reduce swelling or pain.

5/7

Kiwi

In the video, he said that kiwi is another fruit that contains digestive enzymes, which can help prevent the signs of bloating. It is said that kiwi contains a natural digestive enzyme called actinidin, which helps break down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids, similar to the enzyme pepsin in your stomach. It helps the body digest other protein-rich foods.

6/7

Papaya

Dr Salhab said in the video that papaya also contains digestive enzymes that can be consumed for breakfast. They contain the powerful digestive enzyme called papain, that helps break down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. It eases the digestive process, especially helpful for people with indigestion or low stomach acid.

7/7

Ginger tea with honey

As per Dr Salhab, if you are looking for a nice morning tea, you should try ginger tea, and you can use honey as a sweetener. In the video he said, “Honey contains digestive enzymes that help break down starches.” Honey contains digestive enzymes like amylase, which breaks down starches into simpler sugars and aids in carbohydrate digestion. Also, it contains an enzyme called catalase, which helps balance oxidative stress in the gut.
