5 foods that shouldn't be mixed with curd

Curd is that cool, creamy staple many of us turn to in summer. It soothes the stomach, cools the body, and makes meals feel complete. From lassi to raita, from paratha sides to cooling kadhi, curd holds a strong place on the Indian plate. But while it’s full of benefits, curd doesn’t suit every combination. Some food pairings can upset digestion, cause discomfort, or reduce its natural goodness. Here are a few everyday foods that should never be mixed with curd.

2/6

Fish and curd

You’ve probably heard this one before, and it’s not just an old tale. Fish is warm in nature, while curd is cooling. When eaten together, they can send mixed signals to your system. This combination may disturb digestion or create heaviness, especially if your gut is already sensitive. It’s better to enjoy your curd with vegetarian meals and save the fish for a different day.

3/6

Curd with fruits

Curd with chopped fruits sounds like a healthy snack, but it may not sit well in the stomach. Fruits digest faster while curd takes its time. When combined, they can ferment in the gut, causing gas or bloating in some people. Banana with curd is a common mix but not ideal, especially if you’re prone to cough, cold, or sluggish digestion.

4/6

Curd with milk

Both milk and curd are dairy, but they behave very differently in the body. Milk is sweet and light, curd is sour and heavier. Mixing the two can confuse your digestive system and may lead to discomfort. It’s best to space them out rather than pour them into one dish or glass.

5/6

Curd and urad dal

Think of curd rice and then think of dal vada with curd. One feels light, the other can feel heavy. That’s because urad dal is already rich and dense. When mixed with curd, especially at night, it can feel even heavier and slow down digestion. If you love dahi vada, have it earlier in the day when your digestive fire is stronger.

6/6

Onions and curd

This is a popular summer combo, but not the healthiest. Onions are hot and sharp, while curd is cool and mildly sour. Together, they can create an imbalance in the body, especially in the heat. If you want crunch with curd, go for cucumber or carrots instead.
