Countries where vegetarian food is equally popular

Vegetarianism is a personal choice and is a practice which many people have been adopting around the world. Recently, Mira Kapoor, wife of Shahid Kapoor who has been holidaying in Italy, wrote about her bad experience on the beautiful island of Sicily. She wrote in one of her Insta stories, “Beautiful Sicily. Skip @verduraresortsicily if you're an Indian or a vegetarian. Limited food options, without an attempt to make a vegetarian feel comforted.” She further expressed disappointment for not getting vegan food and wrote, “At a time when veganism is a global movement and an accepted way of life (unlike 5-7 years ago when making anything without egg was unheard of), it’s disappointing when large hotel groups are insensitive to dietary requirements, even when informed in advance. Removing meat from any dish does not make you accommodating. And please-sliced fruit is NOT a dessert.” This made us think about the countries where vegetarian food is not a nightmare. Here is a list of all such countries that are soon either turning into vegetarian places or adopting vegetarian eating culture. Read more… (Images courtesy: iStock)

Canada

You can find vegetarian and vegan restaurants in all of the Canadian provinces, however, you are going to get the most options in Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and Alberta. Here, Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world and one of the best places to eat when it comes to vegetarian food.

3/6

Taiwan

Not only is Taiwan a great country for vegetarians but vegans as well! It’s a country, where most of the living population has Buddhist and Daoist influence. One would be surprised to know that in Taiwan, the government also encourages a one-day-a-week vegetarian diet and strictly regulates the vegetarian labelling of foods for all.

4/6

Jamaica

Here, many people follow the ‘Ital diet’, which disapproves of processed food and meat products. Most of the Jamaicans belong to the Rastafari movement which believes in livity, based on living a balanced lifestyle which dictates that they get their food in its natural state, from the earth. It is this reason that most Jamaicans include hot peppers, and herbs in their diet along with veggies, soymilk, and things you directly get from earth.

5/6

Ethiopia

Did you know that most of the traditional yet popular Ethiopian dishes are vegetarian or vegan? Well, that’s because the country strictly adheres to the traditions of the Orthodox Church, which calls for meat-free Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as long periods of vegetarian fasting. Just like Indian cuisine, Ethiopian food is also best enjoyed with hands.

6/6

Israel

If you are a vegetarian, then you must head to Israel. Here, one can find all the vegetarian-friendly foods like Hummus, Falafel and Latkes, etc. Most of the people follow Kosher food laws that prohibit the mixing of meat and dairy products. This means that many Israeli restaurants either serve meat or dairy products and thus most of the people enjoy vegetarian food here.
