Mushroom dishes you can't resist

Mushrooms are not just nutritious, versatile too. From breakfast to dinner, they can be added to any meal and are celebrated for their meaty texture and earthy flavour. Nutritionally, mushrooms are low in calories yet rich in protein, fibre, B vitamins, antioxidants, and vitamin D, supporting immunity, metabolism, and overall health. Celebrating this nutritious produce, Taste Atlas recently released a list of 52 best rated mushroom dishes which included four desi Indian dishes too. Have you tried any of these?

Matar Mushroom, Rank 32



This traditional dish is made with mushrooms and green peas as the main ingredients. It also uses onions, tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, green chili peppers, cumin, oil, garam masala spices, turmeric, coriander, and red chili powder.

Dhingri Matar, Rank 45


It is a traditional dish made with a combination of button mushrooms, peas, tomato purée, turmeric, garam masala, red chili powder, ginger, garlic, cashews and poppy seeds paste, oil, coriander, and salt.

Khumb do Pyaza, Rank 47


Also known as Mushroom do pyaza, it is a traditional semi-dry dish made with a combination of button mushrooms, onions (double the amount of mushrooms), tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, chili peppers, oil, and powders made from red chilis, turmeric, coriander, and cumin, along with garam masala spices.

Mushroom Kurkure, Rank 52


This traditional dish consists of stuffed and grilled mushrooms. It mostly uses button mushrooms along with a combination of mawa, hot chilli peppers, tomato, salt, pepper, and cumin. The stuffed mushrooms are dipped in a batter of flour, cumin, salt, and water and then grilled or deep fried.
