Drumstick

Also known as moringa, drumsticks are rich in nutrients and offer numerous health benefits. It is said that they are rich in vitamins A, C, and B-complex, as well as calcium, iron, and antioxidants. They are proven to help strengthen the immune system and improve bone health. They are known to regulate blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes. Also, the rich fiber content found in drumsticks supports digestion and prevents constipation. As per a study titled Moringa oleifera: A review on nutritive importance and its medicinal application, moringa is used as a potential antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and antimicrobial agent. The research study also reads,"The scientific effort of this research provides insights on the use of moringa as a cure for diabetes and cancer and fortification of moringa in commercial products." As per Ayurveda, drumstick is a tridoshic herb that helps balance Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas when used appropriately. It is classified as Ushna (heating) and Tikta (bitter) in taste, with deep cleansing and detoxifying effects on the body.

Amla


Also known as Indian Gooseberry, it is one of the richest natural sources of Vitamin C, making it a potent immunity booster. Packed with powerful antioxidants, amla is said to fight free radicals, slows down aging, and promotes glowing skin and healthy hair. It is well-known for improving digestion, metabolism, and aiding in detoxification. Amla also supports heart health by reducing bad cholesterol and improving blood circulation. As per experts, the anti-inflammatory properties of amla make it beneficial for people suffering from joint pain and arthritis. As per the study, Anti-diabetic effects of the Indian indigenous fruit Emblica officinalis Gaertn: active constituents and modes of action, amla possess anti-diabetic effects through their antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties. Amla has also been reported to prevent/reduce hyperglycemia, cardiac complications, diabetic nephropathy, neuropathy, cataractogenesis and protein wasting.

Bottle Gourd


Also known as lauki or doodhi, it is rich in water content (about 92%) which keeps the body cool and well-hydrated, especially during hot weather. It is low in calories and high in fiber, making it excellent for weight management and improving digestion by preventing constipation. Also, Its high potassium content supports heart health by regulating blood pressure and reducing cholesterol. And as per the study titled Safety and antidiabetic activity of Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl. Juice in streptozotocin -induced diabetic rats, bottle gourd has a lot of health advantages and can be used as a treatment for several conditions, including cancer, piles, diabetes, flatulence, and hyperthyroidism. Bottle gourd has low glycemic index, making it great for diabetics. Also, it helps reduce sugar spikes after meals. It is said to work as a natural diuretic, flushing out toxins through urine, and further support kidneys and liver health.

Beetroot


Beetroot is rich in iron, folate, potassium, vitamin C, and antioxidants, which help improve blood circulation and support heart health by lowering blood pressure through its natural nitrates. The high fiber content promotes healthy digestion and prevents constipation.And the presence of betalains, powerful antioxidants, helps in reducing inflammation and fighting oxidative stress. In Ayurveda, beetroot is valued for its natural ability to balance the doshas, especially Vata and Pitta, due to its sweet, cooling, and grounding properties. It is considered Rakta Shodhaka- a natural blood purifier, supporting healthy circulation and improving hemoglobin levels. And as per study, titled "Betalains: Dietary sources, bioavailability, and antioxidative properties", beetroot's betalains help combat oxidative stress and reduce markers of inflammation, potentially benefiting conditions like arthritis and chronic inflammatory diseases. How to eat them right

Drumstick makes for a perfect addition to sambar. One can also make curry with it by adding potatoes and cooking it in tomato-onion gravy. As far as amla is concerned, one can chew it raw with black salt, add it to smoothie or juice and one can also make chutney or murabba with it. For bottle gourd, one can make dry vegetable, or extract the juice and drink it on an empty stomach. It also makes for a great choice to be used in raita. And beetroot, can be used in juice, soup, smoothie, or can be added in appam, dosa, appe, paratha, and more. The sweet taste of beetroot makes it apt for dishes like idli and uttapam too. Simply make a puree or finely grate beetroot and add it in the batter. It enhances the taste and colour of the dish.
