How to use curry leaves

Think of South Indian food and the first thing that pops up in mind is the aroma of curry leaves. The tender-looking leaves are loaded with nutritional benefits but sadly it has never been tagged as a superfood. In a recent video post, nutritionist Pooja Makhija talked about the same and mentioned, “Curry leaves are loaded with so many benefits that you can’t ignore it. She further adds, "A real gem in our kitchen pharmacy- curry leaves. They are pungent in taste but the burst of essential oils pinene, sabinene, terpinene are full of nutrients. All extremely beneficial for hair, skin & digestion also works better than statins to lower cholesterol levels." ​As a morning drink

It is rich in antioxidants and adding 8-10 leaves to a fresh glass of vegetable juice is good for the skin. It is also rich in vitamin C, E and works as an antiseptic for acne. (Image: istock)

​Curry leaf powder during pregnancy and diabetes

Take 2 bowls of curry leaves, dry under the sun, grind, and sieve, and store. Eat 1/4 -1/2 tsp it as the first thing in the morning to beat morning sickness and nausea. She adds, "Using this powder is beneficial during pregnancy and also lowers diabetes. (Image: istock)
