Inside luxury’s skeleton watch revival

Over the past few months, luxury fashion labels and high-end watchmakers have launched skeleton watches, signalling a revival of these mechanical timepieces. They were a key talking point at this year’s Watches and Wonders trade show in Geneva in April. Once the preserve of heritage maisons such as Blancpain and Breguet, skeleton watches are being reinterpreted by contemporary brands with modern materials and finishes while retaining their mechanical charm.


What are skeleton watches
Skeleton watches expose the mechanics of a timepiece by partially or fully removing the dial, revealing the movement beneath. Today’s models go beyond showcasing technical prowess, using visible components as deliberate design features.

Watchmakers remove large portions of the movement’s metal framework while maintaining performance, then meticulously finish every visible component for aesthetic appeal.
