Ready to take your festive style to the next level?

A saree is a timeless piece of clothing that can be worn endlessly in various styles. We usually have the open pallu or sleek draped pallu styling, and then there are the regional-traditional draping methods. But, as we’re moving forward and introducing more modish edges to our ethnic trends, let’s see some contemporary saree draping styles inspired by Bollywood actresses. From elegant pre-draped sarees to glamorous saree gowns, let’s see how these celebs have aced the draping game in 2025.

Kajol

Kajol recently schooled us on how to revamp a saree look into something contemporary and more, which we are absolutely in love with. She wore a beige-toned saree gown by designer duo Shantnu & Nikhil. This stunning couture featured a corseted bodice with a one-shoulder neckline detail, which further cascaded down to subtle pleats. She strategically left the fluid drape loose and completed this saree gown styling with a pair of delicate diamonds, focusing on how ‘less is more’.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

For her 25th anniversary in the entertainment industry, Kareena opted for a sharp black and golden Banarasi gown designed by Amit Aggarwal. This vintage-inspired saree gown was a true testament to the designer’s sustainable approach and was crafted from a pre-loved Banarasi saree without cutting the original fabric. The pleated detailing with a modern saree drape preserved the traditional essence and looked one of a kind. She effortlessly carried this contemporary style with a subtle accessory show and looked absolutely stunning.

Janhvi Kapoor

For her red carpet appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, Janhvi wore a resham saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, which echoed the intricate embroidery of preserving Indian artisanal crafts. Featuring detailed motifs of jamawar patterns, the saree paid tribute to Kashmiri heritage and included an antique jamawar shawl from Rhea Kapoor’s collection. Tagging it as a sharp-looking pallu, she brought in drama with a statement matching a vintage men’s jamawar jacket from the 1980s, which was upcycled and re-embroidered by the designer duo.

Tamannaah Bhatia

Bringing a hint of modern opulence to a traditional drape, Tamannaah ruled the fashion moment in this pre-draped georgette saree by Masaba Gupta. She wore the dark green ‘Trikone Draped Saree’, which looked no less than a work of art and came in with intricate Trikone embroidery, gold dori, and subtle sequin work on the pallu. She quickly elevated the look with a silk bustier blouse featuring zardozi embroidery and a statement square neckline. Instead of draping the pallu from front to side, she directly pinned it on the extreme edge of her shoulder and gave us a full glimpse of her blouse design.

Shilpa Shetty

Exuding a perfect example of how less looks more elegant, she wore a dazzling pre-draped satin saree from the label 431-88, which was dipped in neutral silver-gold and had fine, flowy pleats that looked rich and shiny. Draping this piece on her lean body, she classically left her pallu, but the real catch came with the pallu already being attached to her crop blouse, and she roared fashion finesse.
