5 countries where sneakers are cheaper than India

Countries where sneakers are noticeably cheaper

Let’s be real, buying sneakers in India can seriously hurt your wallet. Whether you’re eyeing a classic pair of Nikes or those trendy On Cloud runners, prices here are usually on the higher side. Import duties, taxes, and retail markups all team up to make sure you pay more than you should. But here’s the good news, there are countries where you can snag the exact same sneakers for a lot less.

If you’re traveling abroad or have a friend who is, you might want to keep this list handy. Here are five countries where sneakers are noticeably cheaper than in India.

2/9

United States

This one tops the list for a reason. The U.S. is a sneaker shopper’s paradise. Whether it’s Nike, Adidas, or On Cloud, you’ll find much better deals in the States than back home. Even popular models like the Air Force 1 or On Cloud 5 can cost almost half of what you’d pay in India.

You’ll also find massive seasonal sales, outlet malls, and tons of online deals. And since a lot of these brands are based in or ship from the US, the base price is lower to begin with. If you or someone you know is flying to the States, it's definitely worth picking up a pair or two.

3/9

Thailand

Thailand might be known for its beaches and street food, but it’s also a pretty sweet place to shop for sneakers. You’ll find prices that are often lower than in India, especially for Nike and Adidas. On Cloud shoes are a bit harder to find but still come at slightly better prices than here.

Bangkok has plenty of sneaker stores and malls that run regular promos. Plus, tourists can claim VAT refunds, making your haul even more affordable. The range might not be as massive as in the U.S., but you can still get some really solid deals.

4/9

Malaysia

Malaysia is another underrated sneaker destination. Prices for mid-range sneakers like Nike Air Max, Pegasus, or Adidas Superstars are often much cheaper than in Indian stores. On Cloud is slowly gaining traction there too, and you might find decent deals in bigger cities like Kuala Lumpur.

The good thing about shopping in Malaysia is the combination of low taxes and high availability. Shopping malls often host big brand outlets, and there’s a lot of variety, both in terms of performance shoes and lifestyle sneakers.

5/9

Germany / Switzerland

Surprisingly, parts of Europe like Germany and Switzerland can be pretty affordable for sneaker shopping, especially if you know when and where to buy. You won’t always see shockingly low prices, but during sales or at outlet malls, you can find great deals on popular brands.

What makes it even better is the tax refund option for tourists. When you claim that VAT back at the airport, it can knock off a significant chunk from your bill. Definitely a smart move if you’re traveling around Europe.

6/9

Vietnam

Vietnam has quietly become a go-to place for bargain sneaker shopping. Since a lot of global sports brands manufacture their shoes there, prices tend to be cheaper, especially for Nike and Adidas. Even if you’re not at a factory outlet, regular stores often have better base pricing than what you’d find in India.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have several sneaker shops and even local markets where you can find great deals. Just make sure you're buying from reliable stores to avoid knock-offs. If you're into basic or everyday styles, Vietnam is a great place to shop without burning through your budget.

7/9

Why are sneakers so expensive in India?

It all comes down to taxes and logistics. When a pair of sneakers is imported into India, it gets hit with customs duties, GST, and distribution costs. Add retail markups on top, and suddenly a shoe that costs $90 in the US is priced at ₹12,000 here.

Limited supply and growing demand also play a part. With sneaker culture booming in India, but fewer options available, resellers often charge even more, especially for limited editions or hyped drops.

Great tips for shopping sneakers abroad

If you’re planning a trip or know someone who is, here’s how to get the most value out of international sneaker shopping:

Shop during sale seasons: Time your buys around Black Friday, end-of-season sales, or holiday discounts.

Visit outlet malls: You can find great deals on last season’s stock or discontinued models.

Use tax refunds: Many countries let tourists claim back VAT or GST, saving you even more.

Buy in bulk: If you’re shopping for family or friends too, you might get extra discounts.

Plan ahead: Know your size in international brands to avoid returns or wrong fits.

9/9

Grab those sneakers

Let’s face it, sneakers are a lifestyle now, not just footwear. But that doesn’t mean you need to pay premium prices in India when there are better options abroad. Whether you're heading to the US, Thailand, Malaysia, Europe, or Vietnam, there’s a good chance you’ll find the same sneakers for way less.

So next time you're packing your bags, maybe leave some space for a new pair or two. Your feet and your budget will thank you.
