Just for Rekha!

If there’s one thing Alia Bhatt knows how to do, it’s show up in style and with serious nostalgia. The actor recently attended a special screening of the classic Umrao Jaan, and her look had every vintage Bollywood fan buzzing. Draped in a dreamy baby pink saree, Alia paid tribute to none other than Rekha, specifically her unforgettable Silsila avatar.

Channeling Rekha's timeless elegance

Styled by the ever-fab Rhea Kapoor, Alia’s look was a modern spin on Rekha’s timeless elegance. The feather earrings? A direct nod to Rekha’s 1981 vibe. Her makeup was fresh and dewy, and she kept her hair soft and simple, letting the saree (and those statement earrings) do all the talking. She looked graceful, glowy, and completely in her element as she posed for the paps at the event.

Reference on point

Rhea even shared side-by-side shots of Rekha’s original look on her Instagram Stories, proving that this homage was done with love, precision, and full fashion respect. Even fashion watchdog Diet Sabya approved, calling it a “reference done correct” and praising the custom couture saree as both modern and respectful to its roots.

One with the legend

The timing couldn’t have been better either with Umrao Jaan being re-released in theatres this Friday after a full restoration by the NFDC and NFAI. The film, which stars Rekha in a legendary role set in 19th-century Lucknow, is a cult classic and Alia’s look was a perfect tribute to its lead star.

In a world full of red carpet gowns and glam, Alia’s thoughtful fashion throwback proves that sometimes, nothing beats a good old saree and a nod to a legend.
