5 times Usha Vance taught us lessons in minimalistic chic

Usha Vance, the Indian-origin wife of US Vice President JD Vance is a sight to behold. She rarely appears in public unless for official events and is known to keep it simple in life. For Usha, it's matter over material and as the SLOTUS, her initiatives and speeches have shown us more about who she is than any branded fit would. Over the year, she has come to be known for her minimalistic chic that inspires women across the states to accept their natural beauty with pride. Here are five times Usha Vance taught us lessons in minimalism.

2/6

White House State Dinner: Oscar de la Renta

During the state dinner hosted at the White House in honour of the UK's King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Usha Vance appeared in a bold Oscar de la Renta gown. The luxury fashion brand took to Instagram to share that the Second Lady donned a custom double-face wool gown in noir with crystal floral appliqué and a matching shawl. She complemented the attire with matching black heels, pearl earrings, her wedding ring and a side-parted low bun, offering a stylish look mixed with classic choices.

3/6

Inaugural Ball: Reem Acra

Usha Vance entered the inaugural ball while making a shining statement in fashion class. The 40-year-old donned an evening gown from Lebanese designer Reem Acra. The strapless design featured intricate paillette embroidery and Chantilly lace which she paired with minimal jewellery and a side-parted hairdo, letting the dress do all the talking. The linear gown blended just the right amount of sparkle and charm to look timeless yet modern and definitely fit for a ball.

4/6

Arlington National Cemetery: Sergio Hudson

When the first lady donned an all-black look at the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, Usha opted for a sleek white coat from Sergio Hudson. She complemented the look with brown gloves and boots, providing a balancing contrast. While she stood out in a sea of black ensembles, her look still felt simple and serious enough for the occasion.

5/6

India visit: Saloni

In April 2025, the Vance family arrived in India for a visit. The second couple paid a tribute to their American roots, donning white, blue and red while exiting the plane. Usha donned a dress from Saloni in the shade Hibiscus, a pale red that matched her husband's tie. With a high neckline and a cinched waist, it looked formal, however, the sleeveless look with heels gave it a vacation feel too, balancing out the choice. She carried a white blazer in her hand along with a pair of cool shades on her eyes. The modern spin on the bold colour was definitely a hit without much effort.

6/6

Republican National Convention: Badgley Mischka

Before she even became the Second Lady, Usha Vance had given a glimpse into how her style was going to be in the role. At the Republican National Convention in July 2024, she spoke in a knee-length, form-fitting blue dress designed by Badgley Mischka. The striking colour was a refreshing and smart choice to gain attention while still being formal enough to be taken seriously. She completed the look with black, open-toed heels and her wedding ring.
