Guru Ravidas Jayanti (Birthday of Guru Ravidas) is observed every year on Magha Purnima (full moon day) during the month of Magha, as per the Hindu calendar. This year, February 24th (Saturday) will be observed as Guru Ravidas Jayanti.

Guru Ravidas was an eminent spiritual guru during 15th- 16th century CE. He was a revered mystic saint and poet during the Bhakti movement era. Guru Ravidas was the disciple of revered Brahmin bhakti poet Ramananda. He was a follower of the Ramanandi Sampradaya tradition as mentioned in the medieval text of Ratnavali.

Guru Ravidas was a social reformer and his teachings were based on gender equality, abolition of the caste system, social justice and equality. He emphasised on the philosophy of spiritual freedom. His teachings inspired millions of people who became his followers and devotees. He is renowned for championing the cause of the social reform movement, particularly for his efforts to eliminate the caste system in Indian society. The followers of Guru Ravidas strongly believe in the teachings and practices of Guru Ravidassia religious movement.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti holds a profound significance for the Sikhs belonging to Ravidasa sect. It is celebrated mostly in Northern regions of India: Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Guru Ravidas Jayanti holds a great importance for the followers of the Ravidassa religion.

The devotional verses of Guru Ravidas are found in Sikh scriptures. Some of the saint’s divine verses are included in Guru Granth Sahib, Panch Vani text of Dadu Paanthi tradition. Forty-one Ravidas poems are included in Adi Granth. His devotional songs and verses deeply touched the hearts of millions, imprinting spiritual wisdom.
