Upcoming 2019 movies based on books we can't wait to see

The popularity of book-to-film adaptation has risen over the years and film industries have never missed an opportunity to draw the visual aesthetics of the writing aesthetics. A research conducted in 2018 by the Publishers' Association, a trade organization, shows that movies based on books make more money at the box office than those based on original screenplays or other media. They said, "Book adaptations historically earn 44% more money in the UK and 53% more globally than films based on original screenplays." So let's roll up your sleeves and get the popcorns ready, because here are 12 upcoming book-to-film adaptations that we cannot wait to watch in 2019!

The Good Liar

'The Good Liar' by Nicholas Searle is a story of a sauve con man, Roy Courtnay, and a wealthy widow, Betty McLeish. The two meet online and Roy makes Betty his next target to scam her out of a few millions. Roy seduces Betty and soon moves-in with her, but realises that he actually likes her. On the other hand, Betty maybe isn't the woman she claims to be. 'The Good Liar' thriller movie is directed and co-produced by Bill Condon and written by Jeffrey Hatcher. Starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren the film is expected to release in November.

The Zoya Factor

Anuja Chauhan's bestselling novel, directed by Abhishek Sharma, stars Dulquer Salman and Sonam Kapoor. The story follows Rajput girl Zoya Solanki who meets the Indian Cricket Team through her job as an executive in an advertising agency and ends up becoming a lucky charm for the team for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. The poster of the movie shows Dulquer and Sonam holding and peeking out from behind the novel by Anuja Chauhan, on which the film is based. The film is scheduled to release on April 5, 2019. The screenplay is penned by Neha Rakesh Sharma, and the dialogues are written by Pradhuman Singh.

Artemis Fowl

The adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy book by Irish author Eoin Colfer arrives next summer in August. The fantasy series follows a 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl as he discovers the world of fairies, and then decides to rob them. The movie will only cover the events of the first book. Produced by Disney, the film is being directed by Kenneth Branagh with Ferdia Shaw, Josh Gad and Judi Dench having some of the major roles.

The Goldfinch

Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning book was announced to be adapted into a movie in 2014 and the cast was announced in January 2018. Right after its release, 'The Goldfinch' became an instant bestseller and Warner Bros. purchased the movie rights. The movie is scheduled to release on October 11, 2019. It will star ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ actor Ansel Elgort in the lead role with Aneurin Barnard, Luke Wilson, Sarah Paulson, etc.

Little Women

One of the favourite classics of all time, Louisa May Alcott's 'Little Women' was already adapted into a movie long back. But the new version stars book lover and feminist Emma 'Hermione' Watson, Meryl Streep, and Saoirse Ronan among others. The movie is expected to release on December 25, 2019. Fans of the actors and lover of books are already going crazy over the release of the movie and honestly, it makes sense!

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

Maria Semple's much-loved novel 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette' is scheduled to release on August 9, 2019 in the USA and stars Cate Blanchett. Blanchett plays the lead as Bernadette Fox, a suburban mother who seems to live an idyllic life in Seattle. Without any notice, she disappears one day, leaving an eclectic group of characters to look for her.

The Call of the Wild

American author Jack London's 1903 novel The Call of the Wild is a heart-touching story of a St. Bernard-Scotch collie named Buck. The story is set in the 19th century Yukon, when strong sled dogs were in huge demand. Buck is a domesticated dog who is living at a ranch in California. He is stolen and sold, forced to live like an Alaskan sled dog in the harsh environment of Alaska and under cruel treatments. However, Buck emerges as a leader in the wild. Dog lovers are sure to love the movie adaptation of this book which is expected to be out this December. The film stars Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens.

The Hate U Give

2017's pathbreaking Young Adult novel about police brutality became an instant bestseller and ruled the shelves all the year round. The movie rights were already sold after its release and now the movie is scheduled to come out in October 2019. The story follows 16-year-old Starr, who witnesses the unnecessary shooting of his childhood friend Khalil by a police officer. Now, facing pressure from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what's right.

The Woman in the Window

Based on the bestselling psychological thriller of the same name by A.J. Finn, the film stars Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, Fred Hechinger, and Anthony Mackie. With such a star-studded cast, the film is slated to release on 4 October, 2019. The story follows an agoraphobic child psychologist who witnesses a crime while spying on her neighbours, leaving her to determine whether to alert the police.

It: Chapter Two

Following the first movie 'It', which was released in 2017, 'It: Chapter Two' is the second part of the story written by horror master Stephen King. Set in 2016, 27 years after the events of 1989 described in the first film, the second part chronicles the story of the evil clown Pennywise who returns 27 years later to torment the grown-up members of the Losers' Club. The movie stars Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, and Bill Skarsgård among others and is about to release on September 6, 2019.

The Sun is Also a Star

Based on the bestselling Young Adult novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon, ‘The Sun is Also a Star' follows Natasha and her family who have less than 24 hours before they are scheduled to be deported from New York to Jamaica. More complications arise when Natasha falls in love with Daniel, the son of Korean immigrants. Scheduled to release on 17 May 2019, the film will star Charles Melton, Yara Shahidi, Jake Choi among others.

Catch-22

Based on Joseph Heller's dystopian classic, Catch-22 was earlier adapted as a phenomenal movie in 1970 by Mike Nichols. 2019 will see a limited series adaptation which will be led by George Clooney, who will star, produce, and direct the ambitious project. 'Catch-22' is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule. It is expected to release on May 17, 2019.
