Pulitzer Prize Administrator Mike Pride announced the 2017 Pulitzer Prize winners at the Columbia University, New York City on April 10. The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

'The Underground Railroad' by Colson Whitehead won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2017. The book is awarded "for a smart melding of realism and allegory that combines the violence of slavery and the drama of escape in a myth that speaks to contemporary America", according to www.pulitzer.org .

The Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography or Biography

'The Return: Fathers, Sons and the Land in Between' by Hisham Matar won the Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography or Biography "for a first-person elegy for home and father that examines with controlled emotion the past and present of an embattled region", reads a statement on www.pulitzer.org.

Lynn Nottage won her second Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for her play 'Sweat'. It's considered as a "powerful drama that reminds audiences of the stacked deck still facing workers searching for the American dream", stated www.pulitzer.org.
Meanwhile, the Pulitzer Prize for Music 2017 was awarded to 'Angel's Bone' by Du Yun. 'Angell's Bone' is considered as "a bold operatic work that integrates vocal and instrumental elements and a wide range of styles into a harrowing allegory for human trafficking in the modern world", according to www.pulitzer.org.
