Pulitzer Prize Administrator Mike Pride announced the 2017 Pulitzer Prize winners at the Columbia University, New York City on April 10. And if you are a book lover, then you should pay extra heed to the six winners in the categories-- Letters, Drama and Music as they include Fiction, Drama, History, Biography or Autobiography, Poetry, General Nonfiction, and Music. The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction is one of the biggest awards in literature. Here are the Pulitzer Prize winners of 2017 in the six categories, which you need to add to your reading list right now.

'The Underground Railroad' by Colson Whitehead won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2017. The book is awarded "for a smart melding of realism and allegory that combines the violence of slavery and the drama of escape in a myth that speaks to contemporary America", according to www.pulitzer.org .

'The Return: Fathers, Sons and the Land in Between' by Hisham Matar won the Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography or Biography "for a first-person elegy for home and father that examines with controlled emotion the past and present of an embattled region", reads a statement on www.pulitzer.org.

2017's Pulitzer Prize for Poetry was given to 'Olio' by Tyehimba Jess. 'Olio' won the prestigious prize "for a distinctive work that melds performance art with the deeper art of poetry to explore collective memory and challenge contemporary notions of race and identity", stated www.pulitzer.org.

The Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction was given to 'Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City' by Matthew Desmond "for a deeply researched expose that showed how mass evictions after the 2008 economic crash were less a consequence than a cause of poverty", reads a statement on www.pulitzer.org.

The Pulitzer Prize for History was given to 'Blood in the Water' by Heather Ann Thompson. According to www.pulitzer.org, the book won "for a narrative history that sets high standards for scholarly judgment and tenacity of inquiry in seeking the truth about the 1971 Attica prison riots".

Lynn Nottage won her second Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for her play 'Sweat'. It's considered as a "powerful drama that reminds audiences of the stacked deck still facing workers searching for the American dream", stated www.pulitzer.org.
Meanwhile, the Pulitzer Prize for Music 2017 was awarded to 'Angel's Bone' by Du Yun. 'Angell's Bone' is considered as "a bold operatic work that integrates vocal and instrumental elements and a wide range of styles into a harrowing allegory for human trafficking in the modern world", according to www.pulitzer.org.
