'Malgudi Days' by R. K. Narayan

'Malgudi Days' is R. K. Narayan's short story collection that has been appreciated all over the world. First published in 1943, it consists of 32 short stories that perfectly capture rural life in that era. The stories mostly take place in a fictional village called Malgudi and some characters are recurring across the stories. One of them, Swami is an endearing little boy who studies in class 2 and the book revolves around his friends, his home and his school life.

They are one of the oldest texts in the world and the Upanishads are both a part of them and an interpretation of them. The Hitopadesh/Hitopadesha is a collection of stories presumably written in the 12th-century. The origins are unknown but the tales are timeless. With both human and animal characters. The tales are simple and there is no one translation to recommend.

A very limited selection. No contemporary, high quality diverse children’s books are included. Hope you will consider revising the list or doing another one. There is a whole new world of children’s books of past 20-25 years to be discovered.
