When one thinks of the pioneers of Indian literature, R.K. Narayan is one of the top names that comes to mind. He is best remembered for his tales on Swami and friends set in the fictional town of Malgudi. Those tales are so timeless that they're read and even adapted into other formats even today. He was honoured with a AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan, the Padma Bhushan and a Sahitya Akademi Fellowship for his contributions to literature and the country.
