The art of dry brushing

In today’s era of elaborate skincare routines packed with serums, toners, creams, and body masks, beauty can often feel overcomplicated. Yet, the secret to truly radiant skin lies not in expensive products, but in ancient, time-honoured rituals rooted in nature. Once cherished by European royals, this age-old practice has the power to rejuvenate your skin, awaken its natural vitality, and leave you glowing with the effortless elegance of a modern-day heiress.

What is dry brushing?

From ancient Greeks to Native Americans, dry brushing was practised for centuries by many different cultures to remove the dead skin cells. The process stimulates blood circulation without the use of any skin-enhancing creams and potions and is an all-natural procedure. It is the act of using a soft, dry bristle brush to exfoliate and buff all over your body and skin without any complicated explanation.

How to dry brush the right way

Step 1: Use a natural and soft bristle brush, and start with your feet in circular motions. Make sure that your skin is dry and does not have any products, even water, on it.
Step 2: Continue working your way up your whole body, and always brush towards your heart. Now, on your feet, legs, arms, and stomach, start brushing in an upward direction, whereas on shoulders and face, brush downwards.
Step 3: After finishing up, take a shower with lukewarm water and moisturise your body with natural products, leaving your skin glowing, soft, and supple.

Benefits of dry brushing

With just a little hard work or devoting just 5 minutes a day to this technique, you will be able to get celebrity-like smooth, even-toned, glowing skin. This is a simple yet effective technique that exfoliates, detoxifies, and then boosts circulation, giving you a natural and healthy glow. The process also reduces cellulite appearance and stimulates blood flow and lymphatic drainage. It also energises your body by stimulating nerve endings for a wake-up effect.

Who should avoid dry brushing?

People having sensitive or irritated skin should avoid this procedure, as dry brushing might be too harsh for your skin’s upper layer, leading to redness and rashes. If you have eczema or psoriasis issues as well, then this technique is a big no for you. Also, avoid using this on the face, as our facial skin is too delicate, instead one can opt for a gentle exfoliation method.
