Use ashwagandha to its best potential

Ashwagandha has been part of Indian kitchens and Ayurvedic medicine for generations. Our dadis and nanis have sworn by it—not just for keeping the mind calm and the body strong, but also for giving hair that thick, healthy look. Rich in antioxidants and nutrients, this humble root can help control hair fall, make roots stronger, and even boost new growth. Here’s how you can use it at home.

Use ashwagandha to its best potential

Ashwagandha has been part of Indian kitchens and Ayurvedic medicine for generations. Our dadis and nanis have sworn by it, not just for keeping the mind calm and the body strong, but also for giving hair that thick, healthy look. Rich in antioxidants and nutrients, this humble root can help control hair fall, make roots stronger, and even boost new growth. Here’s how you can use it at home.

3/7

Ashwagandha oil massage

Nothing beats a good champi, and when you add Ashwagandha to the oil, it’s next-level. You can mix 2–3 spoons of Ashwagandha powder into warm coconut, sesame, or almond oil. Massage your scalp gently for 5–10 minutes, leave it for an hour (or overnight if you can), then wash it off.

Why it works: Improves blood flow to the scalp and strengthens the roots while soothing any irritation.

4/7

Ashwagandha hair mask

For deep nourishment, make a simple mask. Mix 2 spoons of Ashwagandha powder with aloe vera gel, dahi, or amla powder to form a smooth paste. Apply to your scalp and hair, leave for 30–40 minutes, then rinse well.

Why it works: Feeds your scalp vitamins and antioxidants, reduces stress-related hair fall, and makes hair stronger.

5/7

Ashwagandha in your diet

Strong hair starts from inside. You can take Ashwagandha powder in warm milk before bed or as a capsule (check with a doctor first). Usual dosage is around 300–500 mg once or twice a day.

Why it works: Helps reduce stress, balance hormones, and improve sleep, all of which show up in your hair health.

6/7

Ashwagandha tea

If you don’t like milk, try Ashwagandha tea, boil half a teaspoon of the powder in water for 10 minutes, strain, and sip. You can also blend it into a fruit smoothie.

Why it works: Easy way to get its stress-busting, hair-strengthening benefits daily.

7/7

Ashwagandha hair products

These days, many shampoos and oils already have Ashwagandha in them. Just check the label to see if it’s one of the main ingredients.

Why it works: Gives your scalp a regular dose of nourishment and keeps hair strong over time.

Dadi’s tip: Be patient - Ashwagandha isn’t an overnight magic trick. Use it regularly for 2–3 months along with a healthy diet, proper sleep, and gentle hair care, and you’ll notice your hair becoming thicker, shinier, and healthier.
