Fruits or vegetables: What should you indulge in this summer for a glowing skin

The ultimate summer skin diet: Should you binge on fruits or veggies?

Summer shows up, and suddenly your skin starts acting different. A little dull here, a little oily there. And no matter how much sunscreen or moisturiser you pile on, it still feels like something’s missing.

That’s because glowing skin isn’t just about what you put on your face. It’s also about what’s going on inside your body. And honestly, your kitchen matters more than your vanity shelf right now.

So when you’re standing in front of the fridge, half-melting in the heat, what should you actually grab -fruits or veggies?

Let’s talk about it.

2/4

Fruits

Fruits are the obvious craving. They’re cold, juicy, and instantly refreshing. Watermelon, for example, is basically hydration in food form. You eat a bowl of it and feel human again. Plus, it’s packed with antioxidants that help your skin deal with all that sun exposure.

Papaya is another quiet hero. It’s not just for digestion - there’s an enzyme in it that gently clears away dead skin cells from within. And berries? They’re like tiny shields for your skin, helping fight damage from pollution and UV rays.

But here’s where it gets tricky. Not all fruits are your skin’s best friend when you overdo them. Mangoes, grapes—delicious, yes. But also high in sugar. And too much sugar over time can mess with your collagen, which is exactly what keeps your skin looking firm and fresh. So yeah, that third bowl might not be doing you any favours.

3/4

The green glow-up

Now vegetables… they don’t get the same hype, but they quietly do a lot of heavy lifting.

Cucumbers are a no-brainer in summer. They cool you down, hydrate your skin, and just make everything feel a little less inflamed. Tomatoes, especially when cooked, are surprisingly powerful. They help your skin handle sun exposure better, almost like a mild internal backup to your sunscreen.

And then there are greens. Spinach, kale—things you probably avoid unless you’re feeling particularly disciplined. But they’re loaded with nutrients that help your skin repair itself, especially when heat, sweat, and pollution start clogging everything up.

Carrots and sweet potatoes are worth mentioning too. They give your skin that warm, healthy tone without any sun damage. It’s subtle, but you’ll notice it.

4/4

So, what wins?

If you had to pick one, vegetables probably win. They’re steadier. You can eat more of them without worrying about sugar messing things up. And they support your skin in a more long-term, consistent way.

But honestly, you don’t need to pick sides.

Your skin does best when you mix things up. Load your meals with fresh, water-rich vegetables. Snack on fruits when you want something sweet and hydrating. Keep it simple, keep it balanced.

Do that, and your skin will start showing up differently. Not overnight. But slowly, naturally… and in a way that actually lasts.
