In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Babul Supriyo contested from the Tollygunge constituency and lost by a margin of over 50,000 votes.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Dasgupta resigned from the Rajya Sabha to contest on a BJP ticket from Tarakeswar but lost the seat by over 7,000 votes.

BJP leader and actor-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee contested from the Chinsurah Assembly seat in Hooghly district in the West Bengal Assembly elections but lost to Trinamool Congress candidate Naren De.
