Birth and family

Ratan Tata, the son of Naval and Soonoo Tata, was born on December 28, 1937. Along with his younger sibling, Jimmy, Ratan was raised by their grandmother, Navajbai R Tata. Tata’s global expansion

As chairman, Tata focused on expanding the group’s international footprint. In 2000, under his leadership, Tata Group acquired London-based Tetley Tea for $431.3 million, followed by the purchase of South Korea’s Daewoo Motors’ truck division in 2004 for $102 million. Retirement and return

Ratan Tata retired as chairman of the Tata Group in December 2012. However, in October 2016, he briefly returned as interim chairman after the sudden dismissal of his successor, Cyrus Mistry.
