Nitish Kumar takes oath as Bihar CM for record ninth time, forms new government with BJP

“The NDA government formed in Bihar will leave no stone unturned for the development of the state and to fulfill the aspirations of its people”, PM Modi wrote in his congratulatory message for Nitish Kumar.

Nitish expressed dissatisfaction and said that he faced challenges within the Mahagathbandhan and the opposition alliance INDIA. Consequently, he asserted his intention to establish a fresh government in collaboration with the BJP, despite having severed ties with them just under 18 months earlier. (PTI photo)

In the 243-member Bihar assembly, JD(U) holds 45 seats. With the backing of BJP and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), the NDA's total count will reach 127, surpassing the halfway mark of 122 needed to demonstrate a majority in the House. (PTI photo)
