The legendary MiG-21 fighter jets, set to take to the skies at Chandigarh Air Force Station, practicing ahead of their final ceremony. After over six decades, these Russian-origin aircraft, once the backbone of India’s combat fleet, are set to retire on September 26, closing a defining chapter in IAF history.

Last flypast in Chandigarh

Indian Air Force personnel rehearsing at Chandigarh Air Force Station ahead of the MiG-21 Operational Flying Culmination Ceremony. The remaining jets, operated by No 23 Squadron “Panthers,” will be officially retired with a decommissioning event and ceremonial flypast at the same base where the aircraft first entered service in 1963.

Legendary jets, distinguished guests

On Friday, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh will pilot the final sortie of the MiG-21 Bison, closing a storied chapter of IAF history. The ceremony at Chandigarh AFS will see dignitaries including defence minister Rajnath Singh, CDS Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, and Navy Chief Adm Dinesh K Tripathi in attendance.
